I played today some games in a Botmatch for testing some builds.
I skilled DR without frost Arrows and for that: Maelstorm + Deso and it works really good.
I prefer the combo more than frost arrows now.. Im not sure about the other items but I´m testing this now:

1. Maelstorm
2. Desolator
3. Shadow Blade
4. Moon Shard (Free slot if I activate it)
5. Agh (For clones/illusions like PL or heroes with low health) or Daedalus (Tanks, strong Heroes)
6. Boots of Travel

What re u thinking about that? Frost Arrows or Maelstorm+Deso ?

I don’t play much of drow, but you can technically use all 3.

When you are hitting structures, the only UAM that will be used is the Deso.

When fighting, you turn off the arrows, get a deso proc (which last 15 sec) then auto cast arrows to keep them slow. The maelstrom proc will override the deso and the auto cast if it procs.

I have seen pro players go 0-4-4 and buy Skadi instead. In the late late game when they have to skill up Frost arrows they get a good double slow. It’s pretty powerful I would say.

But pro players have a much better understanding of damage and when it is safe to attack and when to run. So we probably would be able to run that strat as effectively at our skill level

I don’t think this is the right build in general tho. I would go like PT/Phase, RoA, Dragon Lance, HoD.

Break the lance into a aghs/bfly. use the hod to stack ancients. build a daedalus manta. Orb walking dota 2 drow pro

If you aren’t the core and going into more of a ganking or early game build then go shadowblade.

If you really need the armor reduction, someone else should build AC MoC or the daedalus.

That’s a LOT of UAMs. Maelstrom + Desolator is redundant because one of the two UAMs is disabled, thus wasting a good chunk of gold. Ag’s is overrated on Drow and frankly kinda bad. BoTs are fine and dandy, but you need realistic boots early game to tide you over.

If you want to ORB-walk, do Skadi + Frost Arrows or Frost Arrow-Lifesteal-Frost-Lifesteal-repeat. Skadi gives you an attack speed slow as well as a movement speed slow that technically stacks with her Q, so long as you alternate every auto or so.

Moon Shard is a “Well, I’m 6-slotted, so I’ll build this to get some attack speed” item. Drow’s massive AGI bonus from her ult gives tons of attack speed, almost defeating the point of any attack speed items outside of Treads + Shadow Blade and any AGI she gets from items/stats. I’d aim for Butterfly instead, personally, or probably a BKB.

Sange-and-Yasha could actually be a theoretically good choice. It’s a cheap-ish item to assemble (Both S & Y stand alone well enough to justify 2k each) with tons of stats and a passive that isn’t a UAM.

Daedalus is always good since Drow gains up to

100+ bonus damage from her ultimate + E and she has high enough natural attack speed to support it without much help.

Shadow Blade is a logical choice since Drow has no means of running away from BKBers and loses her AGI bonus when they run up in her face. They’ll either A) give up, B) buy sentries, C) buy dust, D) already have sentries/dust and kill you, or E) never buy dust/sentries and whine that Shadow Blade is OP somehow.

Butterfly is a scary item on Drow Ranger because it gives a ton of AGI, tons of attack speed (from AGI mainly), and it gives Evasion for enemy carries. Also has an active that converts Evasion into a high amount of movespeed for a few seconds.

Maelstorm, by itself, is not a terrible choice on Drow Ranger. It gives everything she needs: damage, attack speed, and a UAM to ORB-walk with.

Desolator, like Maelstrom, is also good if you ORB-walk. Tons of damage and armor shred can take down even the mightiest of tanks.
