I tried to do a search on this topic, but didn’t have much luck so I apologize if it’s been brought up before.
What I’m basically hoping for is a camera option that works similarly to camera panning in StarCraft II. When you hold the middle mouse button, your cursor disappears and you can pan the camera around by moving your mouse in the direction you want it to go. The camera continues in that direction until it reaches the edge of the map or you let go of the button. The current DotA 2 middle-mouse function almost accomplishes this, but only allows me to move the camera in the opposite direction I drag my mouse, more like dragging the ground than moving the camera. Perhaps this is what the mysterious “invert camera grip” option is meant to do in the future? If so, awesome! I’m sure other StarCraft and RTS players are accustomed to this type of camera pan behavior.
Yes! This! Pleeeeeease! It’s the only thing stopping me from playing this game right now.
I wholeheartedly agree. The cursor needs to be locked/anchored and there needs to be an option to uninvert the camera movement.
Plus, you can’t ctrl click Spiderlings on the UI; you have to ctrl click the Spiderling’s actual model.
Please make this option rebindable aswell. I rebind it to the thumb button on my mouse in sc2 and i never have to scroll with my mouse on the side of the screen again,
now its just horrible going back to it or using the middle mouse button with inverted drag.
I’ve seen many threads on m3-m5 being able to be bound and I just agree.
I would love this as well, good suggestion.
Many players, like myself, use the camera grip function in RTS games. It is so much faster to just hit the middle mouse button and all of a sudden your zipping the camera around like your mouse cursor is over the minimap. There are so many problems with the current camera grip functionality.
1. You are forced to learn to control the camera with both horizontal and vertical directions inverted, which takes alot of time (trust me)
2. You can only move the camera a reasonable distance (which isn’t nearly enough) when you start with your cursor at the very edge of the screen and pull the mouse in the opposite direction which totally defeats the purpose.
3. You cannot grip with your mouse cursor over any hud.
Can’t think of any others at the moment but I’m sure there are many more.
I understand what they are going for; you grip the camera to move it around in a small area and the cursor stays right where you left it on the terrain. IMO the tradeoff is not worth it. At least give us the option to use the currently implemented method or go with the more traditional amazing camera grip functionality used in other pc games. Please, please fix this. Please.
